Alejandro 'Alex, Leco' Escanuela Sr.

Alejandro "Alex, Leco" Escanuela Sr., 73, of Big Spring died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.

He was born Aug. 12, 1939, in Winkler County, Texas, and married Yolanda "Landie" DeLeon on Jan. 23, 1959, in Big Spring, Texas.

Alex was a life-long resident of Big Spring and had worked for the Howard County Road Department for 21 years, retiring in 2001. He had served as a board member of the Howard County Federal Credit Union. He was also a member of the Chicano Golf Association.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish.

Survivors include his wife, Yolanda Escanuela of Big Spring; two sons, Alex Escanuela Jr. of Big Spring and Daniel Escanuela of Austin; three daughters, Elizabeth Palomino and husband Arthur of Big Spring, Leticia DeAnda and husband John of San Antonio and Pricilla Gamboa of Big Spring; one brother, Ignacio Escanuelas of Big Spring; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mateo and Pilar Ortega Escanuelas; and two sisters, Petra Escanuelas and Gloria Escanuelas.
