All-City Choir set for Tuesday concert

February 22, 2013

The best young singers in Big Spring will be in concert Tuesday when the All-City Choir performs at Big Spring High School.

The choir, composed of select Big Spring Independent School District fourth and fifth graders from Goliad, Marcy, Moss and Washington elementary schools, will take the stage at the high school auditorium at 7 p.m.

Judith Ayer, assistant choral director at Big Spring High School and organizer of Tuesday's event, said children were selected for the choir based on more than just their singing ability.

“Of course, they had to have good singing voices,” Ayer said. “But they also had to be good representatives of their school. We like to tell the kids they are the cream of the crop.”

The choir, which has had two months of rehearsal leading up to Tuesday's concert, will be under the direction of Ayer and Randall Capshaw, junior high choir director.

The program includes a selection of folk songs, Ayer said, and the Big Spring High School show choir Rhapsody will perform before joining the children for a number. Members of the Howard College Percussion Ensemble will perform, as well.

Admission is free to Tuesday's event.
