Alon worker escapes serious injury in accident

July 20, 2011

A man was transported to a Lubbock hospital from the Big Spring Refinery shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday after suffering second-degree burns over his body from an accident involving a water leak, according to officials with Alon USA.

The man — whose namewas witheld by the oil company — is an operator at the refinery and an Alon USA employee, according to Refinery Vice President Jimmy Crosby.

Crosby said the employee was burned by hot water and transported by ambulance to the burn unit at University Medical Center in Lubbock.

“Sending him to Lubbock was strictly a precautionary measure,” Crosby said. “He was released from the hospital at approximately 3 a.m., so the burns weren't life threatening.”
