Alvenia Mae 'Moma Beta' Messimer

Alvenia Mae "Moma Beta" Messimer, 99, of Big Spring, died Wednesday, August 29, 2012, in an Odessa hospital. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, September 3, 2012 at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with Dr. Jimmy Braswell, officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Sunday, September 2, 2012, at the funeral home.

She was born October 21, 1912, in San Saba County, Texas. She married Luther J. Jones in 1929 and he preceded her in death in 1941. She then married Willie Lee Messimer June 29, 1968 in Grants, N.M. and he preceded her in death October 14, 1989.

Alvenia came to Big Spring in the early 1940's and moved to Grants, New Mexico in the mid 1960's. She returned to Big Spring in 1979. She had worked at McCrory's and as a hairdresser for a number of years.

Survivors include two daughters, Melba Engdahl and husband, Wally of Cotopaxi, Colorado and Mary Jones of Big Spring; one sister, Ruby Daniels of Houston; 9 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 26 great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Jack Jones, Sr.; two daughters, Nannalee White and Delores Ingram; a grandson, Jack Jones, Jr.; seven brothers and sisters; and two great-grandsons.

The family suggests memorials be made to God's Learning Channel, P. O. Box 61000, Midland, Texas 79711-1000.
