Anne Mary 'Ikee' Gray

Anne Mary “Ikee” Gray, or Mimi, 76, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at San Angelo Community Medical Center in San Angelo, Texas. She was born June 24, 1936, in Garden City, Texas, to Young Claude “YC” and Helen Gray. Mimi was the eldest daughter of the family.

Mimi received her bachelors in speech therapy, masters in audiology and PhD in psycho-linguistics. She was a woman pioneer in the 1970s. She founded Audio Acoustics and brought audiology to the small towns of west Texas. Later in life, she worked as a counselor in Texas, Arizona and New Mexico.

Ikee had a great passion for life and love of travel. She was very active in Girl Scouts throughout her childhood and while her daughters were growing up. She also celebrated 31 years of sobriety and had a passion for helping others find their way.

She is survived by her two daughters, Dr. Kathy Cubine and husband Sam of San Angelo and Julie Kabel and husband Dr. David of Plano; granddaughters, CoCo Cubine, Kendal Cubine, Kacey Cubine, Lauren Kabel and Katherine Kabel; great-grandson, Johnny Rocket Cubine; sister, Helen Galbraith of Lindale; brother, Pat Gray of Midland; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A memorial service will be held for the family and friends of Mimi at the residence of her daughter, Kathy Cubine, in San Angelo, Texas, on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at 1 p.m. The family can be contacted for directions and/or additional information at ikeegray@gmail.com.

The family would like to thank the outstanding staff at Senior Care Assisted Living for their love, support and care of Mimi over the years. They would also like to thank the hospital staff at San Angelo Community Medical Center for their exemplary care, love, help and especially the pecan pie and salmon.
