Annual Christmas parade returns to Gregg Street

November 30, 2010

What do you get when you mix Santa Claus with the good ol' red, white and blue? This year's Big Spring Herald Community Christmas Parade.

The parade, which “heralds” the start of the Christmas season in this area, will celebrate its 25th anniversary next Saturday.

The theme for the this year is “A Star Spangled Christmas,” and several floats adorned with patriotic themes are expected, organizers said.

The parade, which first wound its way down Gregg Street in 1986, will again be a lighted parade. And this year's parade will return to almost its original route, now that Gregg Street construction efforts have been completed.

Plans call for the route to begin lining up as it has traditionally done and the procession will begin at the intersection of 24th and Gregg Streets, proceed north on Gregg to Eighth Street, turn east one block before turning north and proceeding to Heart of the City Park on Scurry Street.

The parade is set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
