Anthony 'Ant' Herrera

Anthony “Ant” Herrera, 30, of Big Spring, died Saturday March 22, 2014 in Ward County, Texas. Vigil services will by 7 p.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Big Spring with burial following at Trinity Memorial Park.

He was born to Diane and George Herrera on Feb. 28, 1984 in Big Spring. He was a lifetime resident of Howard County. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Coahoma High School. He played baseball at Howard College and at Sul Ross State University.

He married Veronica O’Canas April 13, 2013. in Lubbock.

His passion was baseball. He had worked for Oncor and was presently working with Atmos. With his love for the game of softball, he leaves behind many teammates who he loved like brothers. Anthony had a contagious smile that could light up any room and was a friend to all that knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Veronica Marie Herrera of Big Spring; two sisters, Krystal Woodruff and husband Curtis of Coahoma and Kimberly Ybarra and husband Matt of Big Spring; brothers, Greg Smith and wife Magan of College Station, Chris Romero of Midland, and his special friend, like a brother, Eddie Gonzales of Big Spring; his father, George Herrera and wife Olivia of Lorraine; nieces and nephews, Mahlaya Woodruff and Keno Woodruff of Coahoma, Matthew Jessie Ybarra of Big Spring, and Katlyn Danielle O’Canas and Kaci Rose O’Canas, both of Plainview; his grandparents, Louisa and Claudio Lopez of Sand Springs and Carmen Herrera of Coahoma.

In addition to his grandfather, Luis Herrera, he is preceded in death by his mother, Diane Herrera, and niece, Kiana Vanderbilt, who died in the same accident.

Those serving as pallbearers are Eddie Gonzales, Chase Ward, Delvin White, Martin O’Canas, Ish Sarabia, Joey Villa, Jason Starr and James O’Canas. Honorary pallbearers are Cody Gaona, West Texas Mafia softball team and all who loved softball.
