Run set for Saturday

Time to pull out the running shoes.
Big Spring State Park and Timing Specialists have teamed up to put on the inaugural Run 2 Love 2 Run. The Valentine’s Day themed run will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday on Scenic Mountain.
“This is an incentive for folks to stay fit,” State Park Manager Ron Alton said. “As always though, just because run is in the name doesn’t mean people can’t walk the distance if they choose to.”
Local race director Craig Felty found the inspiration from a few couples he knows who are working toward running together and staying in shape.
Registration for the event will be around 10 a.m. the morning of the race. There is a $20 entry fee for each person and couples are asked to submit their individual registration forms together. Registration can also be be done in advance online at timingspecialist.com or by calling the Chamber of Commerce office at 263-7641.
“All state park events are good business for the park,” Alton said. “Money raised will be used toward maintenance of the park.”
The state monitors the amount of traffic through the state park and the better the numbers, the better justification there is to keep the park open, according to Alton.
Awards will be presented to the top three places in three divisions; male, female and couples. There will also be a special prize drawing for the best Valentine’s Day costume.
