The Grady boys led the area at the regional track meets over the weekend, tying for first with Borden County at the Class A, Division II championship. Forsan, Big Spring and Stanton all qualified individual athletes for the state meet in Austin in May.
LUBBOCK â€” Big Spring runner Gustavo Lugo will have another chance to win gold at the state meet as he finished in second place in the 3,200 with a time of 10:03.98 at the 3A region I meet at Texas Tech's Fuller Track over the weekend. Lugo also placed fourth in the 1,600. As a team, BSHS placed second in the 1,600. Chris Nunez missed reaching the state finals in discus by less than two feet.
On the girl's side, the Lady Steers placed fifth in the 800 relay.
Individuals finishing in the top two qualify for the state meet at Mike A. Myers Stadium at the University of Texas in Austin May 10-11.

ODESSA â€” Stanton had a slew of representatoves at Ratliff Stadium over the weekend for the 2A regional tournament and qualified at least one athlete for the state meet â€” Latriceia Smith â€” who placed first in the 400 with a time of 58.73.

LEVELLAND â€” Both Forsan and Grady fared well at the regional track meet for Class A, Division I and II respectively over the weekend at South Plains College.
The Forsan boys settled for a fourth place finish as a squad, but Trevor Burchett earned a gold medal in the 100, as teammate Brendan Roman took third in the same race. Tyler Evans placed first in the 3,200. The girls placed eighth as a team, but finished second in the 400 relay.

The Grady boys tied for first place as a squad, scoring 74 points along with Borden County. Grady's relay teams dominated the competition and Brandon Lucas taking the gold in the long jump. The girls finished in fourth place with 56 points, but saw Ellyn Avery take first place in two events.
