Arthur Thomas Barrett

Arthur Thomas Barrett, 88, of Abilene, died Wednesday Feb. 19, 2014, at Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home in Big Spring. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene.

He was born June 28, 1925, in Aquilla, Texas to Caroline M. and William R. Barrett. He married Mary Frances Payne June 25, 1947 in Waco, Texas. At age 17, he entered the U.S. Navy and later went to school on the Navy GI Bill, receiving his master’s degree. He worked as a systems analyst in the space program. He retired in Waco where he was involved with the Shriners. He later moved to Abilene in 1995.

He is survived by his wife, Fran Barrett, of Abilene; two daughters, Beatrice Garner and husband, Thomas, of Abilene and Caroline DeMartis of Fredericksburg, Va.; one sister, Betty Reaties and husband, Bill, of Midwest City, Okla.; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
