A Big Spring teenager who was allegedly shot by her boyfriend Thursday evening has died, officials said.

Abigail Valencia, 17, died early Saturday at University Medical Center in Lubbock, said Tony Everett, Big Spring Police Department public information officer.

Dakota Aguiano, 19, who had been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in Valencia's shooting, had his charges upgraded to murder this morning, Everett said. Anguiano remains in custody at the Howard County Detention Center.

Valencia was airlifted to UMC following the shooting, which occurred shortly before 6:45 p.m. Thursday in east Big Spring.
