Barbara Ann Schafer, 77, of Garden City died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at her residence after a long battle with COPD. Graveside funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at the Garden City Cemetery.

She was born Jan. 21, 1936, in Fort Worth, Texas, and married Charlie Joe Schafer Feb. 14, 1951 in Big Spring, Texas.

She and her family moved from Odessa to Beaumont, Texas, in 1966. After retiring in 1993, she and Charlie moved to Glasscock County, where her husband had property and built a home there.

Barbara was an avid golfer, she enjoyed a good game of Yatzee, loved to read, and enjoyed her computer and surfing the Internet for crossword puzzles and good jokes to send to her many friends.

Survivors include her husband, Charlie Schafer; three daughters, Cynthia Sellers, Penny Meissner and Rosemarie Wilson; two granddaughters; five grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Sammie Nicholson and Judy Moreland.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Lois Moreland and step-mother, Ovell Moreland.
