March 14, 2011

A 9-year-old Big Spring girl was killed Sunday afternoon near Lake Texoma in Marshall County, Okla., after an all-terrain vehicle overturned and rolled over her, according to officials with the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety.

Summer Rain Quillen was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which happened on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers property near Lake Texoma, approximately six miles south of Kingston, Okla.

A second child, 8-year-old Jordan M. Genn of Ardmore, Okla., was injured in the accident. According to Oklahoma DPS records, Genn was transported from the scene by a private vehicle to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

According to Lori Swanson, public information officer for Oklahoma DPS, the accident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. Sunday when the 2011 Honda ATV four-wheeler driven by Quillen encountered a steep hill.

Quillen lost control of the ATV while traveling down the hill, causing the vehicle to roll forward once, rolling over the young girl. Quillen was pronounced dead at the scene by officials with Marshall County EMS. The cause of death is believed to be head trauma.
