Big Spring receives help with reliever route funding

Howard County commissioners received some good news from officials with the Texas Department of Transportation and the Ports-to-Plains trade corridor Monday, as it appears matching funds for the reliever route planned for west of Big Spring to the tune of $500,000 will come from the state, not the county.

Members of the commissioners court โ€” joined by local representatives from several other agencies โ€” met with the envoy of officials from the trade corridor and TxDOT Monday afternoon at the Howard County Courthouse to discuss the reliever route, as well as other aspects of the project, which is designed to develop a nine-state, 2,300-plus mile economic development corridor between Texas and Alberta, Canada.

According to TxDOT Abilene District Engineer Lauren Garduno, the matching funds for the route โ€” which have been estimated at approximately $500,000, will not have to come from the county coffers.
