Big Spring teams earn big wins
The Lady Steers of Big Spring made quick work of Monahans Tuesday night, grabbing a decisive 67-35 win on Monahans' home court.
Ambra Hill got back to the form Lady Steers fans saw early in the season, scoring a game-high 17 points for Big Spring. Though the game went a full four quarters, it was pretty much decided after the first frame, as Big Spring exploded out to a 17-4 lead. Then, seemingly to make sure their point was taken, the Lady Steers lit up the scoreboard for 25 points in the second, while holding Monahans to seven.
Hill, along with Logan Yarbar (13 points) was good for two 3-pointers in the game. But both girls had to take their hats off to Mackenzie Stone who scored nine of her 11 points on long-range 3-point shots.
The 42-11 halftime lead the Lady Steers took into the locker rooms allowed the girls to rest some starters and get the second echelon more valuable playing time than usual.
Big Spring would still outscore Monahans 25-24 in the final two frames, but there was a larger gap between these two teams than even the score would indicate.
Cerbi Ritchey, Yaneria Tuitt, and LaShaunte Anderson each added six points to Big Spring's stat sheet, while Ashtan Galan and Dyrshae Vanderbilt contributed four.
Big Spring will host Lubbock High at 6 p.m. Friday.
The boys basketball team pulled off a complete sweep in Lakeview Monday as the varsity squad defeated Lakeview 69-48. The JV team won by a score of 38-16 and the freshman squad completed the trifecta, winning 40-16.
