I’m about to tell my age now, but when I was a child all the community activities were based around the church. For much of my young life we had church in the school house. School activities never interfered with the things of God. Now we are hard-pressed to find time for the things of God.

Of all the mighty wonders that God created, the greatest is man, who is nothing less than a microcosm, a miniature world, composed of all the elements found in the entirety of creation. Animal, vegetable, mineral - all the kingdoms are represented within man, but there is more. Side-by-side with the material elements of earth, there resides within man a lofty intellect and a holy spirit, the stuff of heaven. Truly this all-encompassing man is no less than a tiny universe.

The great grass war

 I’m engaged in a war — a grass war. The objective of my battle is to cover the bare spots in my front yard with St. Augustine. I’ve been told that a good stand of grass will choke out the weeds and other invasive kinds of grass.

Parson to Person: Goin' back to camp

There are some things that leave a lasting impression on a person. Certainly a first kiss would fall into that category along with a person’s first true encounter with a living God, your first home run or piano recital or camp.
Can you remember going to camp? Whether it was church camp or Boy or Girl Scout camp, band camp, sports camp or some other kind of camp — those experiences stay with a person. Many lifelong friendships are made at camp.
