Blood drive slated for Friday

Staff Writer

United Blood Services will be back in Howard County this Friday collecting blood to help local patients at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Friday, a UBS blood drive will be held in the Big Spring Council Chambers, 310 Nolan.
According to Linda Grace, senior donor recruitment representative, the supply is running low on a few specific blood types.
“While all blood types are welcome, we are chronically low on O Negative,” said Grace. “O Positive is a little bit low, and that is the most prevalent blood type.”
With this blood drive being one of the last before summer vacation starts for students, Grace said it was important to make sure this drive was successful.
“Coming into the summer, donations drop off drastically,” said Grace. “Schools are out and people are on vacation. This would be very important for donors to be apart of going into the summer. This will help boost the supply a little bit.”
For donating blood, donors will receive one movie pass, a free car wash from Mighty Wash, 700 Hero points, and a free cholesterol check.
