Bobby Gene Merrick, 80, of Big Spring, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at his residence. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, at Coahoma Cemetery with Chaplain Walter McCall officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, at the funeral home.

Bobby was born July 20, 1931, in Big Spring, Texas, and married Mattlyn Manning on Dec. 16, 1972, in Big Spring. She preceded him in death on April 3, 1996.

He was a lifelong resident of Big Spring. He managed the Pontiac dealership for 13 years, worked as a car salesman for Branham Auto and had owned three car lots. His last business was Bargain Barn.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Bob Merrick and wife Lola of Brownwood and John Albert Merrick and wife Vaughn Dell of Burnet; one sister, Nelta Smart of Houston; five grandchildren; and one niece and one nephew.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, John Robert and Iva Pearl Walker Merrick; three brothers, Walker Merrick, Travis Merrick and Lester Merrick; one sister, Opal Merrick; and one grandson.

The family suggests memorials be made to Compass Hospice, 1003 East FM 700, Big Spring, Texas, 79720.
