Herald Staff Report

SNYDER, Texas — Area investigators, including the FBI and Texas Rangers, are investigating the scene where a badly decomposed body was found Saturday near Lake J.B. Thomas in Scurry County, about 33 miles north of Big Spring.
News sources said that as of this morning, authorities have not decided whether to send the body to Tarrant or Lubbock County for an autopsy.
The Snyder Daily News said this morning Department of Public Safety officers are still working the scene, which Trooper Sparky Dean said is in an undisclosed location. Other news reports have indicated the body was found near Farm to Market 1298 and County Road 3236 — one of the entrances to the lake.
“Authorities are back on scene today, searching for additional remains and any clues that may have been left behind,” Dean said in an email. “This is being treated as a crime scene, so it is slow going.”
The Scurry County Sheriff’s Office, which has assisted with the case, referred all questions to Trooper Dean.
A person whose name hasn’t been released reported finding the remains. Officials have not said the possible gender or age of the person.
Abilene television station KTXS reported that an SUV from the 32nd Judicial District Attorney could be seen at the scene over the weekend. The 32nd District represents Nolan, Fisher and Mitchell counties.

The Snyder Daily News, KTXS and Associated Press contributed to this report.
