There is still time to get a booth for the 30th annual health fair. The theme this year — Pearls of Wisdom of Good Health — is aimed at celebrating the past 30 years. Once again, the fair will take place at the Dorothy Garrett Coliseum from 8 a.m. until noon April 14.
In order to provide the information and medical screenings to the community, area businesses in the medical industry are asked to register for a booth. Booth registration deadlines have been extended, according to Chamber of Commerce officials. Booth spaces reserved by March 20 will be $85 and those reserved through March 30 will be $100.
According to Debbye ValVerde, executive director of the Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce, the health fair started out being held in Highland Mall and moved to Big Spring Mall and eventually outgrew the facility and was moved to it's current location of the Dorothy Garrett Coliseum.
“We are very grateful for our corporate sponsors who have been with us, especially those who have been with us since the beginning; Scenic Mountain Medical Center, VA Medical Center and Dora Roberts Rehabiliation Center,” she said.
The newest corporate sponsor is Dr. Amy Reese. The 2012 health fair has 14 sponsors to date. Each year more than 1,100 people come through the health fair.
During this year's health fair, the blood mobile will be on hand and the Safe Kids safety car seat checks will be taking place, on top of the usual health screenings.
