BSHS baseball opens season with win

February 22, 2011

The Big Spring baseball team took care of business Monday night, beating Monahans 8-2 to open the 2011 season.

Max Pappajohn was on the mound for the win.

Head Coach Bert Otto was impressed with his team’s performance. He said this is about where the Steers were at last year, but he will learn what type of team he has quickly.

The Steers immediately dive in to their first tournament of the year at Lubbock Cooper High School. The tourney starts with Cooper at 10 a.m. and Hereford at 3 p.m. Otto said the Steers should also have Monahans again and Andrews.

The Steers actually will be away from home for a week or so. They come back against Brownfield at 7 p.m. on March 8, then two days later they host their own tournament before a doubleheader against San Angelo Lake View.
