BROWNWOOD â€” The Big Spring High School boys' golf team has claimed the early edge in District 5-3A competition.
Paced by Blake Brorman's 4-under-par 68, the Steers shot a team total 308 to lead the district by 10 strokes after first-round play Monday in Brownwood.
Abilene Wylie was second at 318, while Sweetwater held the third spot with a team total of 324.
Brorman's performance gave him a five-stroke advantage in the medalist competition, while teammate Andrew Fillinghim was third with a 74. Other BSHS scores included Devin Roberson with an 82, Tate Kennedy with an 84 and Ryan Pollard with an 85.
Big Spring's B team, consisting of Jason Guevara, Nolan Beal, Stormy Emery, Tayler Hester and Matt Davila, stood in eighth place after Monday's first round.
â€śThe guys did everything we wanted them to do, especially with the tournament coming to our place for the second round,â€ť BSHS Coach Chris Joslin said. â€śWe wanted to stay close to the leaders, and we did even better than that.â€ť
The Steers host the second round of the 5-3A tournament, tentatively scheduled for Monday at Big Spring Country Club.View more articles in:
