More than 200 students will receive diplomas when the Big Spring High School Class of 2013 holds commencement exercises at 8 p.m. Friday in Garrett Coliseum.
Top graduates for the class are Connor Furqueron and Charles Anderson.
Furqueron, son of Phil and Cherry Furqueron, is class valedictorian and will graduate with a 4.0 grade point average. He is a National Honor Society member and received the Optimist Youth Achievement Award and the Highest Academically Ranked Male Athlete Award.
In UIL academics, he competed in in history, mathematics, ready writing, literary criticism and science. In athletics, he was a member of the state tournament qualifying tennis team. Also, he was named class favorite his sophomore, junior and senior years in high school.
He is active in Boy Scouts, having achieved the rank of Life Scout and is currently completing requirements for the rank of Eagle Scout.
Furqueron has been accepted into the Engineering Honors College at Texas A&M and plans to major in electrical engineering.
Anderson, the son of Jeff and Candace Anderson, is class salutatorian and will graduate with a GPA of 4.0. He is a member of NHS and took several Advanced Placement courses, including calculus, history and physics.
He has competed in mathematics, science and computer applications in UIL academics.
Anderson has been accepted to Texas A&M University and plans to major in engineering.
