February 23, 2011

LEVELLAND — The Big Spring softball team cruised to am 8-2 win against Levelland Tuesday night, upping its records to 2-2.

The Lady Steers rode the arm of Logan Yarbar, who was credited with the win.

Angelina Castillo was big, going 2 for 4. She batted in three runs in the sixth inning, ensuring the Lady Steers left Levelland with a win.
Outside of Castillo, Haley Dimidjian, Mackenzie Stone and Jiliian Valle all went 2 for 4.

“We’re 2-2 right now, so we’re OK,” BSHS head coach John Sparks said. “I told the girls last night, it’s all about staying focused and playing a complete seven innings if we have to go that far. They did a great job last night.”

Sparks said he is still experimenting with his team as far as figuring our who can play where. Thursday is a good time to do so with the Midland West Texas Classic in Midland.

The Steers start off against Seminole and then Coahoma. The latter pits two Howard County teams together.

“We’re going to take some extra players with us to get some looks at them, move some people around, see what our best scenarios are as far as putting a team together that’s going to be competitive,” Sparks said.
“That’s what tournaments are all about.”
