BSHS students qualify for national speech tournament

Two Big Spring High School Speech and Debate team members qualified for the National Forensic League National Tournament, June 13-18 in Dallas.

Senior Jessica Rubio qualified in Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking and Shermila Kher qualified in Lincoln-Douglas Debate.

For Rubio, this will be her third year in a row to attend the national tournament.

“I’m really excited about going to Nationals again.” she said “Meeting and competing against people from around the country and the world is an awesome experience.”

Her previous trips were in Public Forum debate and Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking. Jessica also was named the Tall Cotton NFL District Student of the Year.
