BSISD to begin search for new superintendent

August 1, 2013

Big Spring Independent School District trustees will soon begin searching in earnest for a new superintendent.

Current Superintendent Steven Saldivar, who headed BSISD since 2008, announced Tuesday he will be leaving within the next few weeks to accept a similar position with Anthony ISD. Saldivar's hiring at Anthony is expected to become official Aug. 20.

“He helped our school district,” Board President Irene Rodriguez said. “I have nothing but good things to say about Steven … and I wish him and his family the best at Anthony.”

His departure, coming so near to the start of the school year Aug. 26, means school trustees will have to hurry to at least get an interim superintendent on board.

That process will begin when trustees hold their next meeting Aug. 15, Rodriguez said.

“We'll meet and discuss the process,” she said. “At that time, we'll know more information as to an interim superintendent and what kind of search firm we want to find applicants.”
