A Big Spring man was transported to a Lubbock hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest area early Monday morning after he was allegedly shot while burglarizing a vehicle in the 1300 block of Park, according to law enforcement officials.
Sgt. Tony Everett, public information officer with the Big Spring Police Department, said officers went to a home in the 1300 block of Park Street at 5:23 a.m. Monday.
â€śOfficers responded to a report of a vehicle burglary in progress where the where the victim (of the burglary) was shooting at the actor,â€ť Everett said. â€śOfficers contacted the complainant ... who advised the officers he had caught a male subject in the back of his truck stealing wire.
â€śHe came out of his residence with a weapon and fired numerous shots at the suspect. The complainant has reported several burglaries of his work vehicle in the last two to three months. In each case, electrical wire was taken.â€ť
According to Everett, while officers were speaking with the complainant, other officers were responding to Scenic Mountain Medical Center in reference to a gunshot victim in the emergency room.
â€śOfficers found that the subject, 35-year-old Christopher Myrick of Big Spring, had at least one wound to the chest area and was in serious condition,â€ť Everett said. â€śHe was transported by helicopter to a Lubbock hospital.â€ť
Everett said no arrests have been made at this time, although the investigation is ongoing.
