COLORADO CITY — Rev up the engines and get ready for the CC Riders 12th annual Car Show and Sonic Cruise this Saturday. Toss in a drive-in movie and live music and make a day of it.
Pre-registration for those wanting to enter their vehicle in the car show, accepted through Thursday, will be $20. Otherwise, entry is $25 per vehicle. Inside the Railhead Building, spots are based on a first-come, first-served basis. Awards will be presented at 3 p.m. There will be 20 classes and plaques will be awarded for the top three places in each.
Best of Show, Best Mopar, Best Ford, Best GM and Best of the Rest will receive glass trophies, cash and prizes. The car show will be from 8 a.m. until noon with a cruise set for 6 p.m.
“This is a great chance to look at old cars. Everyone is sure to find something that will bring back some memories,” Mike Ratliff, CC Riders treasurer, said.
The cruise will begin at the Railhead Building in downtown Colorado City and circle the local Sonic. For those taking part in the cruise, radios can be turned to KVMC 1320 or KAUM 107.1 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Registration for the cruise is $10, but those entered in the car show can take part at no charge.
“We really enjoy putting on this show and we are able to serve a good purpose with it,” Ratliff said. “We are hoping everyone will come out and enjoy the day.”
Each year, proceeds from the car show — which are accumulated from entry fees and sponsors — are used to support the car club's scholarship program.
In addition to the car show and cruise, there will be a poker run, live band and drive-in movie this year.
The Colorado City Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the poker run and the Static Pulse Band will be providing live music. A drive-in movie — “Gone in 60 Seconds” — will be shown on the side of the Baker Hotel.
