Chamber tournament tees off Friday
This weekend teams will face off at the Crossroads of West Texas Golf Classic. The Chamber of Commerce will be hosting it's annual golf tournament May 20, 21, and 22 at the Big Spring Country Club Golf Course. “This is a great way for the chamber to raise funds,” Scott Mackenzie, chairman of the Chamber golf tournament, said. “The more funds that can be raised, the more the chamber can do for its members.”The tournament will be a two-man scramble with an entry fee of $200 per team. Included in the fee are beverages, access to the Atmos Hospitality Tent and the Friday afternoon shootout and lunch Saturday and Sunday. Teams will be competing to take home 90 percent of the winnings. According to Mackenzie, winners may receive pro shop merchandize at 100 percent of winnings or may take cash at 70 percent winnings. “The money raised goes towards helping the chamber and all its causes,” Debbye ValVerde, executive director, said. “We try and think of ways to get non-dues revenue to help get us through the year.”The entries must be accompanied by cash, check or credit card and the deadline for refunds has passed, according to ValVerde. Registrations will be taken until Saturday morning, but is also limited to the first 100 paid teams. “This is a fun event that we want everyone to come out and take part in,” ValVerde said. The tournament has received numerous compliments in the past and has showed success in the past years, according to ValVerde. The event is made possible not only through the participants, but the sponsors as well. “We are always accepting sponsors,” ValVerde said.
