âTis the season for giving and time to fill the Chamber.
Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce is wanting to share the Christmas spirit by hosting a toy drive benefiting area organizations.
âI got the idea while watching the news one night. I was so excited after seeing what I saw that I couldnât wait to come back and try and fill the chamber,â Chamber Executive Director Debbye ValVerde said.
The toy drive will benefit CASA, Cossacks Motorcycle Club Permian Basin Chapter, Hometown Christmas, The Salvation Army and Spring Tabernacle Ministries.
âWe arenât trying to take donations away from organizations in town; we are trying to help them spread the holiday cheer,â ValVerde said.
According to ValVerde, donations of new, unwrapped toys for boys and girls age 2 through 18 will be accepted.
âWe arenât asking people to go out and spend a lot of money on toys, but we would like the community to take the time to go purchase a Barbie doll, some Hot Wheels, or a simple teddy bear and drop it by the Chamber,â ValVerde. âWe as adults know the âReason for the Season,â but in a childâs eye, Santa and wrapped presents under the tree are what Christmas is all about.
âThere are some children who donât have a whole lot at Christmas and to those children a simple doll or stuffed bear can mean the world to them. After all, nothing is better than seeing the smile on a childâs face when they open presents Christmas morning.â
Toys will be accepted at the Chamber until Dec. 14. Donations can be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call 432-263-7641.
