Chaplains' corps seeks volunteers

The local Emergency Services Chaplains Corps is looking for a few good men and women to lend a hand — and a shoulder — when tragedy strikes in the Crossroads area.

Chaplain Joel Miller, who handles the training of prospective chaplains in the program, said the group is looking for area volunteers to help fill the gaps sometimes left amidst tragic situations.

“The program is carried out by volunteers and works through grants and local donations,” Miller said. “We used to wait to hold classes until we had enough trainees, but we've changed the way we do that. Now, we train them on an individual basis year round, which really allows for a better experience for everyone.”

Miller said chaplains with the program often help fill a very tough void in the lives of people who find their lives shaken by tragedy.
