Charles Barbee

Charles Barbee, 81, of Big Spring died Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at College Baptist Church with Pastor Ken McMeans officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Park.
Charles was born June 18, 1930, in Knott to Abbie and Walter Barbee. He married Rebecca Rose Coble on July 27, 1951, in Sand Springs. Charles was a lifetime resident of Howard County except for a few years in Midland, Sweetwater and St. Louis, Mo. He was a member and deacon at College Baptist Church. Charles served 47 years with the Texas Pacific, Missouri Pacific and Union Pacific railroads, beginning as a telegraph operator and then many years as the agent at the Big Spring Terminal. His hobby was restoring antique cars.
Charles is survived by his wife, Rebecca of Big Spring; one daughter, Sharlyn Carroll and her husband Mike of Coppell; one son, Greg Barbee and his wife Mandy of Canyon; seven grandchildren, Bethani Owens and her husband Ray, Jeremy Carroll, Gina Woodward and her husband John, Grace Johnson and her husband Tim, Anna O’Brien and her husband Josh, Mary Barbee and Rachel Barbee; seven great-grandchildren, Samuel Johnson, Claire Johnson, Ava Johnson, Bennett Johnson, Asher Woodward, Preston Owens and Grant Owens; and one brother, Darrell Barbee of Glenrose.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jarrell Barbee.
