Charles E. Hamm, 79, of Big Spring died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Bob Heneghan officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, at the funeral home.

He was born Jan. 5, 1932, in Bangor, Maine, and married LaWanda Lewis on April 2, 1971, in Lovington, N.M.

Charles served in the United States Air Force in the Korean and Vietnam Wars as an aircraft mechanic. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include his wife, LaWanda Hamm of Big Spring; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles E. "Butch" Jr. and Janet Hamm of Freemont, Ind., and Phillip Steven and Kimberly Hamm of Big Spring; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Dale Griffith of Willow Park; one stepdaughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Dwight Perkins of Big Spring; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbridge and Anna (Sommers) Hamm; one brother, Marston "Joe" Hamm; one grandson; and two stepchildren, Tawanna Bailey and Dennis Yager.
