Charles Roy 'Chuck' Campanella

Charles Roy “Chuck” Campanella was born Nov. 23, 1943, in Midland, Texas. He passed away Oct. 4, 2012, at his home in Big Spring, Texas.
He is preceded in his death by both of his parents, Charles Peter and Mary Campanella of Midland, Texas; his maternal grandparents, Wallace and Eva Roy of Midland, Texas; and paternal grandparents, Liborio and Sebastiana Campanella, of Boston, Mass.
He graduated from Midland High School in 1961. He then enlisted in the Army in 1966 and was stationed at Fort Sill, Okla. He attained the rank of commanding officer with the Charlie Company, 1st Battalion 12th Airborne Division, U.S. Army, during the combat operation in the Republic of Vietnam. He earned several medals, including two Purple Hearts, two Bronze Star medals, a Silver Star and three Air Medals.
He leaves behind six children, Scott Campanella and Sande Shuffield, both of Mathiston, Miss., Kristen Campanella of Starkville, Miss., Renea Campanella of Englewood, Colo., Katie C. Mann (Jerry) of Coahoma, Texas, Bonnie Burchett (Drew) of Paducah, Ken.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Myers & Smith Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, where he will be laid to rest at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene, Texas.
