Chester Coffman, 94, of Big Spring, died Monday, July 7, 2014, at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Trinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel with Walter McCall, pastor of Vincent Baptist Church, officiating.
Chester was born April 3, 1920, in Crosby County, Texas to Fannie and Walter Coffman. He married Alene Newbrough on Dec. 21, 1940, in Muleshoe, Texas. She preceded him in death on Sept. 30, 2010. They moved to Big Spring from Whiteface in 1946. He owned Coffman Roofing from 1946 until retiring in 1983. He was a Baptist.
He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Bryant and husband Gene of Comanche and Janet Higgins and husband David of Big Spring; one son, Ronald Coffman and wife Karen of Midland; seven grandchildren, Steve Bryant, Sherry Winters, Brenda Hamill, Donna Rundle, Cindy James, Jerod Higgins and Dustin Higgins; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife Alene, he was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers will be Steve Bryant, Brandon Bryant, Jerod Higgins, Dustin Higgins, Jeremy Hamill, Michael Hamill, Brandy Hubbard and David Hamill. Honorary pallbearer will be Speedy Gonzales.
