Child-free shopping? College group can make it happen

Parents of small children who want to get some Christmas shopping done without having to tote their tykes around may have a way out of their dilemma Saturday — Howard College will babysit your little one.
And you'll be supporting a good cause, to boot.

The college's Student Government Association will offer the event, called “A Night Without Your Little Smiles,” from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at Dorothy Garrett Coliseum. Cost is $25 per child, said Marcia McNew, SGA advisior at HC.

Proceeds from the event will go toward Operation Smile, a charitable organization that provides corrective facial surgery to needy children and young adults across the globe.

SGA members and other college students will be available to watch over children ages 3 through 12 during Saturday's event.
Arts and crafts, movies and other recreational activities are planned, McNew said.

McNew said the event is ideal for parents who want to have some free time to get some crucial holiday shopping done.

“That's why we decided to do it just before Christmas, so parents can get some shopping done without having to take their little ones along.”
Parents interested in the event need to contact McNew in advance at 264-5131 or 816-9512 or come by her office in Room 203 of the Horace Garrett Building on the Howard campus.
