Chris Castanuela, 27, of Big Spring died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Chapel with burial at Trinity Memorial Park.

He was born March 16, 1984, in Stamford, Texas. He worked as a driller for oil companies, including Basic, Patterson, Nabors and Robinson. He lived most of his life in Big Spring.

He is survived by his mother, Ollie Castanuela of Big Spring; father, Manuel Castanuela of Melvin; wife, Veronica Hernandez of Big Spring; four brothers, Rickey Haggard of Buda, Manuel Castanuela of Odessa, Jeff Haggard, Aaron DeLeon and Anthony DeLeon, all of Big Spring; grandmother, Vernia Haley of Big Spring; and a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Jason Castanuela; and grandparents, Douglas Randall, Josephina and Jesus Castanuela.
