Christian organization to offer free job training for women

December 5, 2010

Women wishing to enter the job market can find a helping hand in that regard.

Spring For Siloam, a 12-week program designed to help women refine job-seeking skills, will be offered locally in January, officials said.
“This program will better equip women for the workforce,” said Tina Buchanan, local coordinator for the program. “It will give them the tools they must have, and it will match them up with a mentor, someone who understands what they're going through.”

Spring For Siloam is a program operated under the auspices of the Christian Women's Job Corps that offers a needed helping hand to women who might feel overwhelmed at the prospect of competing for a job in today's tight job market, Buchanan said.

“Sometimes, women feel isolated in that regard,” she said. “To have someone on their side or just be there for them can make a big difference.”

This is job training from a Christian point of view — Bible studies will be conducted alongside traditional job-training classes such as budgeting, computer skills, resume building and interview training.

But, aside from giving women the technical skills to find and maintain employment, the program also helps them emotionally, Buchanan said.
