Christmas on Main Street plans finalized

November 30, 2013

Santa has a very busy itinerary planned for Saturday, Dec. 7 when he makes a visit to the Crossroads Area.
The Man in the Red Suit will start his day early with breakfast at the Heritage Museum, be the highlight of the Big Spring Herald Community Parade in the evening and end the day visiting with children at the Pocket Park courtesy of the Downtown Revitalization Association.

“After the parade, we will host our Christmas on Main Street,” said Christy Brorman, DRA president. “We will light up the Pocket Park which is located next to the Sparenberg Building and kids can visit with Santa. We will be allowing kids to get pictures with Santa but there is a $5 charge for that. It is a fundraiser for us.”

Train rides, hot coco and kettle corn will also be available for a small fee and the event will begin right after the end of the Herald lighted Christmas parade. City officials will close off part of Main between Third and Fourth Streets for the event.

“We will also be handing out teddy bears and stuffed animals for free to the children who are in line to see Santa whether they take a picture with him or not,” Brorman added. “We'll be handing out bears while our supplies last.”

Funds raised from the event is used to supporting DRA projects which are aimed to promote, clean up and revitalize the downtown are of Big Spring.
