The city of Big Spring will host a blood drive on Friday, Dec. 4, at the city council chambers,, 310 Nolan St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
According to Linda Grace, United Blood Service senior donor recruitment representative, blood supply shortages usually occur around the holidays as more people travel during the season. Grace said blood supplies usually begin to run low or become critical after the Thanksgiving holidays with Christmas about a month away and New Years just a week from that.
“It is usually a good time to build up the supply of blood before or just after a holiday,” Grace said. “Last year, a hunter had an accident. It took 62 pints of
blood to stop the bleeding. That can exhaust our supply quickly.”
United Blood Services provides blood supplies to this area including Scenic Mountain Medical Center
