City council fires EDC board

August 26, 2014

Citing a "dysfunctional" atmosphere at the Big Spring Economic Development Corporation, the local city council voted 5-2 Tuesday evening to remove the EDC's board of directors.

Mayor Larry McLellan was joined by council members Justin Myers, Raul Marquez Jr., Bobby McDonald and Raul Benavides in voting to oust the EDC board, while Carmen Harbour and Marvin Boyd voted against the action.

McLellan said city officials will accept applications for the EDC board over the next few weeks. He hopes to have a new board in place sometime in late September.
