Claudine Karnes, 85, of Big Spring died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, at her residence. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Memorial Park.

She was born May 10, 1926, in Roanoke, Va., to Ruth and Otey Hutchens. She moved to Big Spring in 1972 from Germany and returned in 1975 from the Philippines. She was a homemaker and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Lana Schooler of Big Spring and Sandra Mills of Menifee Valley, Calif.; two sons, Wesley Emert of Boling Green, Ky., and Gary Emert of Benton, Va.; two brothers, Billy Leonard and Charles Leonard, both of Va.; one sister, Frieda Graybill of Norfolk, Va.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, on March 7, 2005.
