Clayton Henderson

Clayton Henderson, 89, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, in Big Lake, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at the Garden City Cemetery.

Clayton was born Sept. 2, 1922, in Colorado City and married Dorothy Gregg on Dec. 7, 1946, in Midland. They celebrated their 65th anniversary Dec. 7, 2011.

He graduated from Colorado City High School as valedictorian and attended Rice University for one year on a track scholarship. He volunteered in the United States Navy Air Force and also served in the United States Army. He was an oilfield pumper, farmer and rancher and served as a county commissioner for twelve years. Clayton was active in the Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Greg Henderson and wife Dayna of Merkel and Mark Henderson and wife Mary of Big Lake; one daughter, Patti Grote and husband Craig of Mason; six grandchildren; three great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Concho Valley Food Bank, Garden City Church of Christ, Big Lake Church of Christ or the West Texas Boys Ranch.
