Clifford Hale Jr.

November 27, 2012

Clifford Hale Jr., born Nov. 29, 1926, went to be with his Lord on Nov. 24, 2012. Memorial Service will be held at First Methodist Church at a later date.

Clifford was born in Waco, Texas, to Lilly and Clifford Hale and was raised from age 14 by his beloved stepfather, Bob Spence. At 17, he joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was deployed to Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, helping with cleanup.

Cliff returned to Big Spring after the war and married Wynelle Franklin, who preceded him in death Sept. 7, 2007. He worked for his father at Hale Pump Company for many years. He also co-owned Hamby Motor Company.
Cliff was also preceded in death by parents, Clifford and Lilly Spence and stepfather Bob Spence.

He is survived by his brother, Jim Montgomery and wife Nancy of Atlanta, Ga.; a son, Terry Hale; a daughter, Donna Carey Atkins and husband Richard; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Cliff taught Sunday school and helped start Kentwood Methodist and returned for a second time to First Methodist, where Wynelle and he were married. He was a Mason and member of the First Lodge of Big Spring, Texas and was a supporter of the Waco’s Methodist Children’s Home.

The family suggests memorials be made to First United Methodist Church of Big Spring, Waco’s Methodist Children’s Home or the American Cancer Society.
