Coahoma hits Post Friday

October 6, 2011

Coming off of a 22-7 victory over undefeated Hawley last week, the Coahoma Bulldogs get ready to face another district challenge, as they host the Post Antelopes Friday night.

Post comes into Bulldog Stadium sporting a 2-4 (1-1) record, gaining their second win of the season last week in a 31-7 handling of district rival Anson.

With Forsan and Idalou — both 1-0 in district play — nipping at their heels, the 3-3 (2-0) Bulldogs know they can not let off the gas anytime soon. Coahoma has been making their living running up the middle, so with Post crowding the box with their 5-3 defense, the game Friday night could come down to who wants it more.

“They will usually have eight guys in the box,” Coahoma head coach Trey Gardner said. “They will try to make you run outside or pass to beat them.”

But Coach Gardner says he welcomes the challenge.

“We will still try to run up the middle some. After all, it's what we do,” he said. "But I think we have the speed to hurt them on the outside as well. Our kids may not be the fastest team in West Texas, but we do have some speed.”

On the other side of the ball, Post should come out in their standard I formation, where they will run the option on a regular basis.

“The option is always a threat,” Coach Gardner said. “If just one guy gets out of position, they can go the distance. Still, we are looking forward to the game. I think we match up pretty good against them.”
The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. in Coahoma.
