Coahoma trio named to All-District hoops squad
Coahoma junior Savannah Neff was selected for the District 4-2A All-District First Team. . Also chosen were junior Kyla Clanton and freshman Julia Castilaw — both for the Second Team.
COAHOMA — It was a tough season for the young Bulldogette hoops squad (4-11, 1-4), but like many other Crossroads area sports teams, they are young and full of promise.
And that's not just coachspeak either. Three CHS basketball players were selected to represent the school and they are all underclassmen — a good sign of things to come, according to Head Girls Basketball Coach Paul Hartman.
“We will be bringing back all of them,” Hartman said. “We are losing two seniors, but we are excited about next year. These three are the core of the team. The work ethic is there and the girls played hard all season.”
The three Hartman is referring to are point guard Savannah Neff, a junior First Team selection; Second Team pick Kyla Clanton, also a junior; and Julia Castilaw, who was chosen for the Second Team as a freshman.
“(Neff) led us in scoring and played the point guard position for us,” Hartman said. “She led us on the offense. She handles the ball great and she is our best shooter. She's a good leader, too. We're happy to have her back next year.
“(Clanton) led us in rebounding. She's a good inside player and was our second leading scorer. She's hard-nosed. She's a good, tough kid. And (Castilaw) got some great experience this year as a freshmen. She's a big, physical girl. When she learns how to use her strength, she's going to to be pretty good. I think she's got a lot of potential.”
