College 'stars' to hit dance floor

November 27, 2012

Call it “Dancing With the College Stars.”

Howard College and SouthWest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf will team up this Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Hall Center for the Arts, to raise funds for SWCID's scholarship program.

The SWCID Student Government Association and Howard Dance Department are reinventing the "Dancing with the Stars" TV contest on the Howard campus.
Contestants and judges include students, faculty and staff from both SWCID and Howard College.

Ticket reservations are available by calling 432-264-5161. Tickets are $5 for the general public and $3 for Howard College and SWCID students, staff and faculty.

Some of the contest numbers include dances from India and Africa, along with salsa and lyrical dance styles. Judges for the event are Howard President Dr. Cheryl Sparks, Washington Elementary Principal George Bancroft and Mark Dickson of CAAG.

“This collaboration has been a good learning experience for both the SWCID students and Howard students, as they learn to work together on this project,” said Eulaine McIntosh, dance director at Howard College.
