Commissioners to consider library lighting

January 8, 2011

Howard County commissioners will likely seek bids to improve lighting at the county library when they hold their regular meeting at 10 a.m. Monday on the third floor of the courthouse.

County Judge Mark Barr said poor lighting in some areas of the library — such as the children's area — is a cause for concern.

“Those areas (of the library) are pretty dark,” he conceded. “If we're going to do something about it, we need to make sure we do it right.”

The biggest potential roadblock to the project is cost. Barr said preliminary estimates have varied widely, depending on what electrical specifications officials want to follow in the projects.

“We were originally thinking it would cost us about $4,500,” Barr said. “But after talking to an electrician, I don't think that's going to cover it.”
