Howard County commissioners will hold a special meeting Monday morning to discuss a number of items, the most pressing being a recent appeal from the city of Big Spring for the county to delve even further into its coffers to support inter-local programs.
According to County Judge Mark Barr, commissioners will be discussing a number of requests the city has made for funding for projects, including the operation of the Big Spring Senior Citizen Center, ambulance service and the eventual closure and construction of a new municipal landfill.
“The city is requesting an additional $60,000 for ambulance services — which they provide for the county — and an additional $100,000 for the senior center,” Barr said. “They also want to discuss the situation with the landfill, but no dollar amount has been put on that, so far.”
Barr said the county has already budgeted $130,000 for ambulance service, and, per the county's contract with the city, hasn't budgeted any funds for the senior center.
