In response to a last-minute request for money, Howard County Commissioners agreed to shell out more than $100,000 to increase the county's contribution to the operation of the Big Spring Senior Center and the local ambulance service.
Although commissioners had “basically” set the county's budget for the coming fiscal year, they agreed to fund an additional $75,000 in senior center operations and $29,333 for ambulance services during their meeting Monday in the county courthouse.
The county originally had not budgeted any funds to help with the senior center operations — citing an agreement between it and the city of Big Spring — while it had already budgeted $130,000 for ambulance service.
